Artist Statement

My artistic practice explores the notion of presence and absence, while informed by the intrinsic relationship of photography and death, and experience of being in time.

Photography is a “dead” image; a mediated image that does not embodies reality or materials, as Barthes called it “a space of absent presence”.

I am particular interested in this metaphysical “presence” of subjects, its ephemeral, permanent nature and the ambiguity it presents.

As I endeavor to articulate these concerns through mediatory process of layered “external” presence, while maintain its intrinsic connection to the “internal” absence and its essential emptiness.
