Artist Statement
I am a ceramics major student in my final semester of a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
My work is grounded in a fascination with the natural world, particularly botany.
I do not restrict my practice, as I am equally enthused by both sculptural and functional ceramics.
Currently I am working on my major project, ‘Colonial Gaze’, a series of porcelain sculptures of iconic native Australian flora.
Through this work I am exploring the intimate associations of botany and colonialism, the practice of botanical collection; dissecting, classifying and cataloguing and its parallels and links to ideas of knowledge and power.
