Artist Statement

Inspired by memory, nostalgia, and universal human experiences, Carissa is fascinated by things of unexplainable significance, the things that pull on our heartstrings for reasons we cannot fully articulate: love letters, forgotten photos, an electric sideways glance, a stirring passage of a book read late at night, the reliving of a memory, and the unexpected transportation to another time and place.

References to introspection and a strong nostalgic mood feature consistently throughout her work. Her designs are always personal and heartfelt, often born from the fruits of her idleness: writing and drawing while her mind wanders into and around itself.
