Artist Statement

The etchings from my BFA major are part of sustained investigation of the landscape in my immediate surroundings, the Manly Dam Catchment. The Dam is surrounded 370 hectares of bushland. The bushland is dense, with deep undergrowth, trails and tracks winding off into the distance. It is silent. To me, it is lonely, eerie, claustrophobic and deeply unsettling, yet inviting. My heart races when I am alone in the environment. No sooner do I enter, I want to leave. In my haste, I feel disorientated. I want the viewer to be unsettled, disorientated, to feel cloaked in the environment. Claustrophobic.
