Artist Statement

The industrial revolution sees the concept of the machine as something automatic and without personality. With the ability to produce designs both quickly and cheaply this means of production has become most dominant in today’s society.

The machine in TACTUMEX MACHINAE is quite different. This machine is the crocheter who injects their personality through pattern and technique into the object creating something truly unique.

The integration of both new and old technologies has been harmonised in the production of TACTUM EX MACHINAE in order to find a balance between the philosophies of industrialisation and the arts and crafts.
