Artist Statement

“The Twelve Stations of Mel” is a ‘mini-church’ dedicated to the tumultuous career of the almost-Australian Oscar-winning actor, director, producer, and 1985’s “Sexiest Man Alive”, Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson, AO.

“The Twelve Station of Mel”, my work for the COFA Annual 2011, takes a look at the illuminated image, Catholic imagery, male celebrity and ‘fake’ art techniques. The creation of “The Twelve Stations of Mel” required hours of painting mock stained glass panels and watching over 25 of Gibson’s films.
