Artist Statement
Kylie’s design philosophy is based on the preservation of traditional textile techniques and handmade processes. For Kylie’s major project she travelled to Pushkar in India, to work with some local artisans and Fiona Wright an Australian Designer. Kylie worked in collaboration with blockprinters and embroiders, encouraging cross-cultural design. She utilised traditional hand processes and encouraged these artisans to expand their skills by working with contemporary concepts. Kylie designed the block, Salim Khan of Bagru carved it. The printers were Mrs Nandoo & Vijay. Gaffar of Pushkar wove the fabric.‘The Stitching Ladies’ of Pushkar, Clovelly Minimart tailors, and Kylie added embroidery.
