Artist Statement

My work explores the way women construct themselves, building upon the original framework of their flesh with the tools that our image-obsessed society has provided them.

While paint stands in for makeup and other camouflages, thread and stitched fabric hints at plastic surgery – the way we can now cut-and-paste our bodies to suit our exact specifications.

In my works I aim to create patchwork dolls, modern Frankenstein’s monsters who have brought themselves into being through this appealing yet appalling process of self-editing which seems to have become second nature to so many modern women.
