Artist Statement

Loosely inspired by ‘The Lion King’, Pride follows the journey of a 16-year-old boy exploring Sydney’s urban jungle. Whilst encountering a series of extraordinary characters the boy discovers valuable lessons in life. Along his journey he meets Drifter, the profound, and rather eccentric nomad who teaches the young boy of the temporality of life. The malicious Punk-rock group “The Hyenas” who intrinsically impose a drug-induced journey, opening the boy’s mind to the ambiguity of reality. Waking up to Henry and Jarvis, 2 homeless men with interesting stories, the boy ascertains concepts of overcoming past grievances, and the idea of optimism.
