Artist Statement

Working primarily within the realm of painting and drawing, I am interested in finding different ways of depicting the human form. I am particularly drawn to artistic practices that allow the medium to bleed on the surface, creating a loose fluid mark, as a metaphor for human pain and suffering. I use these markings to blemish the work.

My most recent work focuses on asylum seekers in Australia, depicting their dehumanising situation as isolated, helpless and voiceless individuals. I wish to create an experience for the viewer that challenges the images and stories we are presented by the Australian media.
