Artist Statement
Elliott Mackie’s ‘free hand’ series examines the relationship between art jewellery and the digital technologies which are increasingly incorporated in contemporary jewellery production. Working with metal and CAD software, he seeks to demonstrate that computer-aided design does not necessarily constrain creativity, nor does it herald the forsaking of the unique art form. Elliott fuses the exclusive characteristics of both traditional jewellery techniques and computer-aided design in order to create new aesthetics which cannot be realised without the use of both disciplines.
