Artist Statement

Atropos is about confronting the fear of death when one possesses no religious belief of an afterlife to ease this fear. Educated in Catholic primary schools, secular high schools and with agnostic/atheist parents, I have been confronted with the problem which a lack of comforting belief presents — that is, a horror of the black void that awaits at the end of life. Lately this thought has preoccupied me and become the subject of my work, which questions the ability to live out life knowing the inevitability of death, and to manage this fear in an increasingly faithless world.
