Artist Statement
Lauren is a Canadian born artist whose work explores the wilderness of memory, organic spaces and colour. She uses the intuitive act of painting as a tool for remembering. Memory’s tendency to imaginatively reconstruct reality often interferes with true depiction. The artist lets this tendency take control, resulting in works that are experiential and abstract. Lost in the wilderness of painting and memory, the images break apart into states of formlessness. This process of picture making serves as a metaphor for the struggle of remembering, it is an additional link to a broken chain of preserving experience.
