Artist Statement

Reality is always incomplete. As Lacan demonstrated, the moment we enter language is the moment we are left with a gaping lack between symbolism and experience. Objects that surround us at the moment of entry into language are unique- transitional objects between wholeness and lack. Childhood teddy bears become representational of something lost.
The 1960’s split the possibility of utopia broadly into drugs (transcendentalism) and money (free market prosperity).Neither eventuated. Hope of wholeness and community became mobility and oblivion. Perhaps the best we can do is hold onto these strange transitional objects, reminders that the lacking makes us human.
