Anthea Saraikin (Fika)
Anthea Saraikin’s practice explores painting the 'fantastic'. Crossing between Expressionism and Surrealism, Anthea uses acrylics to reimagine the human condition and create otherworldly environments under a pop cultural influence. Within this realm of the hyperreal, delusional, and romanticised, Anthea playfully manifests an underlying lineage of Gothicism, Desire, and Posthumanism. Using an excessive variety of colours she applies, buffers, layers, and renders markings that evolve into animated characters forced to create relationships with each other. Symbols and codes that reappear between her works include vehicles, Nike sneakers, fire, skulls, smoke, and the colour green.
