A&D ANNUAL 2021
Cecilia Boyd
Cecilia Boyd’s practice is informed by experiences of remote, rural settings, often referencing memories of living within the open expanses of central western New South Wales. At times, her narrative centres around disruption of landscapes, embedding emotion and ecological consequence within images. An awareness of gentle and intriguing beauty is evident, even during trauma. The stimulus is often open space, and changes to natural surfaces, their fragility and subtle colour palette. Conceptually, Cecilia’s science background allows a strong awareness of visual perceptual experiences. A process of repeated mark-making and erasure reveals vulnerabilities, yet perceptions of permanence and timelessness.
