A&D ANNUAL 2021
Fiamma K
Fiamma K activates durational artwork by sitting, standing, threading, applying paint and engaging with art through a series of creative practices. Through her work she engages with the corporeal embodiment of action, similar actions embodied through several generations passed before, as well as the conscious and reflexive states of knowing invoked through textiles engineering. In 'Dual Culturalism, A Distillation', Fiamma's practice merges with soundscapes and music, often incorporating repeated spoken word passages or singing to revisit moments. Through this process, ephemeral familial relations materialise, without barriers of space and time, made real with art forms. Religiously neutral spaces evolve before religious ritual, referenced as Pangea-esque. Remembered landscapes emerge, accepting spaces, asking us to hover, in a cognis mentis of neutrality. Universally, each of us wait, destined to trace back allegorically, whence we came. How does artistic practice document familial identity, whilst remaining, religiously and politically neutral? Dampening of our cultural genetic truth begins to code, subverting us as hybrids. Living in juvenescent Australia 200 years young, signals we are a species, continents away from our beginnings, emerging yet from this frontier. Where then do we begin? How do truths shed? Knowing beckons us, to return to make whole, sublime self-understanding yes?
