A&D ANNUAL 2021
Isabel Nixon
This study addresses sexual assault and harassment amongst young adults, delving into the importance of higher quality sexual consent education. Responding to the grand challenge of ‘Equity: The Final Frontier’, Isabel Nixon has designed a contemporary cultural probe kit. This kit is designed for optimal audience engagement in the comfort of one’s home, and includes graphic illustrations and educational information for individuals interested in educating themselves and others around them on the importance of understanding sexual consent. The kit includes engaging posters, crucial terms and definitions, a safe sex product, contact resources, and a body language map. To create this kit, Isabel conducted a virtual co-design discussion with a group of eight 21-year-old women. Participants voiced their opinions about sexual consent in a safe space to share relevant stories or experiences. This cultural probe kit intends to educate young adults on their rights and freedom around sexual consent, and to empower them to speak up and say no to uncomfortable and potentially threatening situations.
