A&D ANNUAL 2021
Kerry Anne Boer
Kerry Anne Boer is a mature-age, digitally savvy cyber sculptor and storyteller based in Sydney, responding to life through a making-practice centred on the philosophy: “beauty and humour in the face of adversity”. Her body of work ‘MATRIART…Practice Perfects Making’ is an in-depth study undertaken to better understand the significance of her looming and inevitable role as ‘matriarch’ within her family. Kerry's contemporary feminist hybrid-crafting works are often voluptuous sensual 3D forms, but she also experiments in the worlds of cyberspace, 2D printing, and poetry. Each gold-leafed, sculptural work is created as a precious toy-like cultural artefact in the form of a family heirloom. The works seek to capture emotions of a single moment and translate them into a generationally universal language, unconstrained by time, age or gender, to be communicated across multiple generations. The large-scale 2D poster prints are juxtaposed against the 3D gold-leafed pieces as a metaphor for the intergenerational communication process itself.
