Nikeeta Arthur
Driven by material applications and theoretical notions of assemblage, Nikeeta Arthur's practice examines the dynamic nature of human and non-human entanglements that exist within the domestic space. Unwanted technological commodities destined for the landfill are collected from the local area before the object’s intimate histories are materially reimagined. Highlighting the precarious relations between operational functionality and psychological boundaries, incongruent couplings provoke explorations through tensions of care and destruction. There is mutual nourishment through intended function and sentimentality, and harm through malfunction and neglect. The objects that transpire exist as embodied rebirths – speculative reboots of retired objects encoded with memories.
