A&D ANNUAL 2021
Utsavi Baviskar
Utsavi Baviskar is an advertising student who gives voice to her abstract, often unrealistic ideas, by studying graphic design at UNSW. Utsavi adopts a multi-disciplinary approach by redefining her boundaries and moving beyond her comfort zone. As a designer, she believes in the power of innovative storytelling, often giving birth to metaphor-laden design interventions, symbolic of a veiled idea. Her design philosophy sees a blend of research and empathy to create unique yet meaningful solutions. ‘Thread technologies’ logo and organisational values are evocative of a friendly and unassuming brand that celebrates imperfections, valuing people before their own profits. ‘Mascot Wings’ are a set of four postcards that pay ode to the suburb of Mascot and Sydney’s oldest airport by illustrating a flight journey. ‘Stretch Therapy Tools’, a speculative design intervention, seeks inspiration from carnivorous plants and their adaptive coping mechanisms to encourage individuals in building resilience by harnessing their stress. Not just a glorious lake, Utsavi aspires to work with people who, like the torrential river, persistently endeavour to grow and improve themselves and others.
