Bianca Currey is a contemporary artist living and working in Cammeraygal Country with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNSW.
Her practice is driven by poetic observations of precarious landscapes. Currey seeks to vivify the 19th-century landscape tradition by creating ‘watery worlds’, drawing inspiration from memories of growing up in the Northern Beaches. Bianca’s expressionist landscapes are grounded in gesture, feeling, and colour, hovering between abstraction and figuration. Each artwork captures the essence of place, serving as an emotional and sensory archive of land and sea restoration.
Set in the Hydrocene, this series acts as a ‘watery tribute’ to the reviving Crayweed at Cabbage Tree Bay, which once spanned an impressive 70 kms. These atmospheric paintings encapsulate memory-felt entanglements stemming from the biophilic desire to connect with nature. Through gesture and colour, Bianca weaves emotions, feelings and natural materials (banksias, sticks and seaweed) as tools anchored to place.
