Daniel Mulia
Springtime of the Students, 2023
Archival Material + Moving Image
Daniel Mulia is a filmmaker and student representative for UNSW College of Fine Arts. He is based on Gadigal and Bidjigal land where sovereignty has never been ceded.
His practice investigates how student unions can be revived and re-organised in the current trend of Neo-liberal university management. Blending both online and offline organising, Daniel explores how using both can reignite student solidarity against attacks on our education.
He experiments with the memes, disruptions, and video essays blended with consensus decision making to inform and recruit students into reviving the student union. Daniel explores impacts that the Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU) bill of 2006 has done to our education and past student mobilisations like the Stand With Tess movement.
