Shroom Lamp, 2023
PLA (Polylactic acid), Acrylic, Glue
'Shroom Lamp' serves as a visual reminder of the beautiful and robust nature of plastic.
'Shroom Lamp' combines the form of a mushroom (decomposition and nature), the style of Art Deco (whose aim was to bring beauty to mass-produced items), and plastic produced from the most modern mass-production technique of 3D printing (for Shepherd's homewares business “Belfi”). Ultimately, this work creates a unified piece that shines a light onto the beauty lying within mass-produced plastic.
'Shroom Lamp' was made to provide insight into how versatile and attractive plastic can be when used correctly. Allowing the audience and user to re-evaluate the value of plastic and consider when they should and shouldn't use it, in turn, reducing the amount of plastic needing to be recycled and thus, the amount ending up in landfill.
