Picky Plates, 2023
Porcelain and Neoprene
'Picky Plates' is a ceramic dinnerware solution to brighten your space and separate your food. Designed for Design Collaboration Studio 3 (FADA3030) this intervention is underpinned by the ethical framework of Inclusivity, with the physical outcome taking place in an interdisciplinary way through object and graphic design.
Designed for a young adult audience ‘Picky Plates’ empowers and celebrates the habits of picky eaters giving them a functional resource that is made of appropriate materials for adults. There are many interventions made from silicone that serve this purpose, however the audience is generally focused on children and infants.
The plate has been slip cast from a 3D printed model using porcelain and glazed in a monochrome contrasting glaze combination. Recycled neoprene has been used to create a life long packaging design to double as a placemat and a stacking aid to avoid chipping and damage when stacking the plates for storage.
