‘Slow Stitch’ is a project that aims to explore the complex relationship between humans and textiles. Packed with a diverse range of stitches and methods, readers gain knowledge on sustainable materials and textiles manipulation. Contemporary graphics engage a new generation to this traditional craft, challenging gender norms historically associated with crafts and breaking gender stereotypes. The human behaviours behind our approach to clothing and textiles are largely based on our background, gender education, and accessibility. By eliminating costs and increasing accessibility, this project can improve costs of living and the mental well being of individuals. The book’s visual instructions cater to diverse learners and will be targeted to people from primary school to adulthood, allowing its versatility to be fostered for sharing within communities. Developing these skills instills a philosophy that breathes new life into our belongings, not only improving our environmental impact but our mental well being.
