Marcela Alvarado Molina is a multi–disciplinary designer. This project was inspired by the clothing dumping ground that has become of Accra, Ghana. An environmental disaster derived from discardment of unsellable donated clothes (clothes that have stains or tears) from Europe, America and Australia, which has contaminated their water system and posed a threat to surrounding aquatic ecosystems.
‘Repparal’ is a quick fix system that uses coral-like bioplastic embellishments to temporarily tackle minor clothing tears and stains whilst simultaneously fostering consumers creativity to act as co–designers to their clothes, stimulating emotional bonding that in turn can motivate them to cherish and keep their clothes for longer and away from our oceans.
