Cunning Women, 2023

A spell can be something as simple as an action paired with intention. Crossing fingers for good luck or touching wooden objects to ward off evil. In 'Cunning Women' I investigate the habits and gestures of my matrilineal line and propose that they are spells cast for resilience.
Re-casting these spells through video, costume and soft-sculpture, I reinterpret these actions to create my own spells of resilience.
Tamara is currently completing her honours at University of Art and Design NSW. Here she creates installations utilising textiles, video and performance. Her work often uses forms of choreography, personal writing and pastiche and looks at various ways our identity forms and transforms over our lifetimes.
