'Shoshin 初心' (meaning ‘beginner’s mind’) is a modular display system and design philosophy purposed for museums and adjacent environments. 'Shoshin' embodies three main concepts of Japanese Zen minimalism; Shoshin, Shibui, and Kigumi, and draws upon these to reassess how museums display and organise historical artefacts - one in which diverges from traditional systems of classification and taxonomy. Focusing on simplicity and truth, Shoshin aims to reduce its design elements to what is essential only; placing a greater emphasis on materiality and objecthood in order to stimulate new ways of seeing.
