Aya Nomoto

As cultures and identities collide, parts of the self are torn and patched up. This work explores the process of filling and uniting the voids of two disparate worlds when they are joined together. My work explores the feeling of the in-between, it contemplates the intermingling of Japanese and Australian identities, cultures, languages and traditions. I work with Eastern and Western calligraphy ink, watercolour and textiles in non traditional methods. This is to create a fusion of techniques and aesthetics in order to enhance the place of liminality.
