Emily Catlow

Writer Doreen Massey describes the phenomenon of "time-space compression" in which a sense of place has become fragmented in contemporary society and asks how we should now think about locality. My practice focusses on site-specific interventions in everyday urban scenes to challenge expectations of social spaces. My work involves considered placement of cast ceramics amongst existing architecture mapping various journeys made by the local community. The work causes an interruption to everyday life allowing for an unrepeatable and fleeting moment which creates intrigue and unexpected contemplation.
