Kate Butler
I am a designer and maker focussing in graphic and object design. My practice centres around craftsmanship, and in particular I enjoy exploring traditional crafts and sustainability. My graduating project 'Spider' was inspired by the move away from textile crafts practiced for millennia, towards consumerism. I built and designed 'Spider', an electric spinning wheel, to address barriers beginners face to the craft, such as access to materials, prohibitive cost of equipment, as well as space restrictions. It is my hope that projects like this help to give consumers insight into the vast amount of labour that goes into textile production.
