Kaylee Lim

My experience as an Australian-born Malaysian woman has permeated my practice, which investigates the dichotomy of not being "Australian enough" or "Malaysian enough".  My work investigates cultural rituals, the experiences of third-culture kids and my parents' immigration to Australia. What began as an intrigue that sought to fill the gap in knowledge of my parent's cultural practices and beliefs quickly progressed into a breakdown of the realities of the Asian diaspora. Within my painting and sculptural practice I utilise cultural artefacts to expose socio-political issues prevailing in modern Australia by remixing heritage and rituals.
