My major work 'Scrub Land' is a Placemaking & Landscaping project for a problematic intersection within a thriving community. The Clovelly intersection is a site marked by near fatal accidents on the daily. Issues such as traffic management and pedestrian safety were identified, referring to the intersection and the liminal spaces within it. The conceptual value of the canopy installation is to bring to light the importance of regenerating the urbanised environment. Randwickâs local attractions are home to the some remaining 3% of Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrubland, a once thriving ecosystem of the East Coast. The ecological importance of these areas are understood, protected and utilised by First Nations clans of the Eora Nation. This project aims to connect patrons to Country through awareness and curiosity. The overall design of this project identifies the ethical considerations of accessibility, diversity, inclusion and sustainability whilst aiming to facilitate a space of enjoyment and connection to Country. Placemaking intends to regenerate an urban space, however, it is considered an open-ended achievement of post-installation labours. Therefore, it is likely to develop its own purpose through interaction and time.
