Monica Trieu
I am an Australian-born emerging artist of Teochew-Vietnamese descent, residing and practicing on unceded Dharug and Gadigal land. My practice engages with ethnic traditions as a means to break down connections between westernised upbringings and losses of cultural ties. With an interest in memories and personal histories, I revisit past familial events to conjure imaginary visions of home in an attempt to make sense of the past, and find clarity within struggles of the present. I also use cultural text and language habitually across my practice, as a form of interrogating diasporic identities, and moreover as tender offerings of love. Through my practice, I hopet to facilitate cultural healing, and strengthen understanding between individuals.
