Penelope Coss
Penny Coss employs stratigraphic thinking to examine the complex entanglements of situatedness: where memory transverses the field, the archive, and studio. Penny's practice is flexible, open-ended and approached with a readiness to be shaped by site or situation. Working across painting, video, sculpture/textiles and performance , her installations express geological phenomena through the material strata of her fieldwork, studio, the archive , historical documents, records, and artefacts. Penny's practice privileges a residual repurposing of material remains and builds on the idea of an incomplete archive, de-stratified, and re-stratified as new information enters her work and offers new ways of understanding the world.
