Redherring

Inspired by Robert Indiana's LOVE (1966-99), and using derogatory terms as sculptural elements, I confront personal trauma and transform symbols of oppression into defiance. An arch constructed from homophobic slurs symbolises the enduring oppression of the Queer community. Its shadow embodies the pain and isolation experienced by countless Queer individuals.  Initially, I seek invisibility to escape the homophobic trauma experienced in my youth, yet ultimately, I confront and reclaim power by embodying these hateful actions and words.  This act of defiance transforms oppression into resilience, aiming to challenge prejudice and inspire a future free from homophobia.
