Saumya Khandelwal

My project supports the Kathputli artists community in Jaipur's slums by creating 'DIY joinery kits' that empower residents to make furniture for themselves. The joineries are modular, multifunctional and tool-free, allowing easy assembly and disassembly. It will enable residents to create their furniture and objects utilising construction wastes and scrap materials initiating a concept akin to, 'Affordable IKEA for everyone' as an affordable and practical solution. Additionally, the joineries are infused with pleasant scents improving air quality in slum areas, thus enhancing well-being through sustainable and innovative design. Ultimately, the project is designed to address Sustainable Development Goals 9.1 and 12.5 reducing waste using advanced 3D printing and bioplastics.
