My work explores the experience of hidden chronic pain. My body is depicted with vulnerability, using oil paint and silver leaf to transform the external into sites of highly visible internal pain with varying degrees of closeness. The shiny skin-like surface of the silver leaf becomes a site of dual repulsion and attraction, reflecting attitudes towards bodies that are in pain and can potentially be othered. Additionally, 'nothing's wrong' approaches the vulnerable and often demoralizing experience of seeking diagnosis and treatment, existing as a form of documentation that while potentially confronting, I am ultimately in control of.
