Zac Tomaszewski

These works belong to the series 'Landscape Eulogy', a reflection on photographic temporality in representations of nature. All works were made in a small section of Belanglo State Forest where continuous deforestation is emblematic of the cyclic nature of existence. Photography is often attributed with stopping time but this is only true in the short-term. Inevitably, all material things are transient. The series begun with photographs that intended to accurately portray the landscape. However, it eventually seemed contradictory to make an archival document of a place symbolising change. This led me to bury these photographs in that same forest to let the soil reclaim them. After a year, I exhumed the prints and photographed the process.
