A&D ANNUAL 2022

Anna Engesser

Anna Engesser's practice examines the ways objects absorb or lose meaning as they are suspended in space. By painting predominantly transparent objects, Anna explores how an object’s history cannot be destroyed even through time and ownership. This is achieved through composing a series of photograms which generate an obscured image or simply the suggestion of an object that was once there. This image is then painted. Through layered mark making, and as the paint is pushed and pulled across a polished canvas, Anna seeks to mimic both the lustrous surface of the photogram and the objects themselves in her paintings.
