A&D ANNUAL 2022

Anna Musarra

Anna Musarra is an emerging designer majoring in graphic and object design, who also engages with an interest in designing systems for services. ‘Shade Share’ is a free beach brolly hiring service hypothetically sponsored by the Cancer Council NSW. Physical pop-up kiosks located at beaches along the coast of NSW during summer are positioned to visually inform of the risks of UV exposure while freely offering the use of Basil Bang beach umbrellas. Importantly, this allows users to seek shade during their time spent at the beach. The ‘Shade Share’ project began with a recognition of the importance of educating and influencing participation in sun safety procedures within Australian communities. The project provocation resulted in the development of a design outcome that not only provides quality UV-protection equipment accessibly to beachgoers in Australia, but also sustainably promotes the importance of practicing sun safety within the community.
