A&D ANNUAL 2020

Annie Areum Shin

Annie Areum Shin is a Sydney-based Korean-Australian artist who employs an ‘art for my sake’ approach to reify the psychological processes underlying her aesthetic choices. Annie focuses on abstraction, collage and self-imposed bounds on making to mimic her mental space and dialogues that unfold across painting, sculpture and installation. Her artmaking is a platform of escape from the influx of information, reality and demand, exploring sociopolitical themes and identity. Annie turns to coded and intimate queries of angst and internalisations, the failures and successes of applied psychology, and the fragments of the self that were birthed from them.
