A&D ANNUAL 2022

Antonia Lewin

In a society disconnected from nature, strategies to promote empathy and care for plants are needed. 'Terrearables' (Terracotta – Terrarium - Wearables) considers the relationship between people and their natural environment. The bio-informed ceramic design, 'Terrearables' provides terracotta substrates for live moss that can be worn as a bodily adornment with a removable sterling silver frame, a contemporary interpretation of traditional stone settings. If sustained in a terrarium between wearings, 'Terrearables' combines the act of body adornment with a practice of care, cultivating a plant and human kinship while reflecting on the precious tension between the natural and material world.
