A&D ANNUAL 2022

Ash Yang

‘Dead Fish’ is a VR experience with sound that explores the theme of the deprivation of freedom and human rights. The incident that inspired this work was the full-city lockdown in Shanghai from April to June 2022, where the whole city shut down for two months and people were not allowed to travel outside their residences. The work applies the combination of actual audio documents and artificial synths existing within a virtual 3D world of raining fish. It is meant to deliver a surreal feeling due to the exposure of a censored society.
