A&D ANNUAL 2021

Charlie Gates

Charlie Gates examines how various language forms such as words and images function, and how the meaning received from them is influenced by the context they are viewed under. Through the lens of the everyday, Charlie highlights how language is used and interpreted within society and ultimately how it fails. His utilisation of printmaking, in particular screen printing, engages in a self-referential process, twisting the traditional values of the printed word and image to expose the loss of meaning in language.
