A&D ANNUAL 2020

Courtney Tier

Courtney Tier explores the potential of new technologies and innovative solutions to complex problems, and possesses high quality systems engineering and industrial design skills. Courtney’s most recent design research project uses industrial design methods to develop an innovative solution to reducing the fomites transmission of infectious diseases. ‘Curve’ is a device that uses a unique type of Ultraviolet light (UV-C) to kill bacteria on the surface of human hands. To begin the cleaning process, the user must insert their hands into the allocated space, triggering a distance sensor that will activate the UV-C lights. This low maintenance, environmentally friendly, technological approach ensures high levels of disinfection, eliminating the need for chemical treatments that can cause skin irritations and contribute to hazardous waste.
