A&D ANNUAL 2022

Dutches Solomon

Australia’s natural weather variability of extreme floods and droughts is anticipated to be exacerbated by climate change, making Sydney’s predominantly rain-fed water supply system unpredictable. The liveability of our city, food security and economic stability are all dependent on a reliable water supply and despite our current abundance of water, Sydney is never far from the next water crisis. Situated in Speculative Design discourse, ‘From and For the Future: Sydney 2050’ is a 3-dimensional, playable simulation designed to raise awareness about the importance of water security. Through interactive gameplay, it encourages an active and deliberate consideration of Sydney’s water future by visualising life in 2050.
