A&D ANNUAL 2022

Henry Butterworth

Henry Butterworth's practice is grounded in photography and the documentary image. 'The Last Island on Cooks' explores the complex histories and fragile future of Fatima Island, located on Cooks River in Tempe, Sydney. Henry combines various archival material, found objects, contemporary photography, and installation to reveal forgotten and alternate histories surrounding the site. The island's future lies uncertain as it is being heavily impacted by climate change and erosion. Fiction is fused with fact to interrogate conventions of the documentary image and archival process, as well as serving as a method of preservation.
