A&D ANNUAL 2020

Jingjie (Jenny) Feng

The reusable cup has been a popular alternative to disposable coffee cups. However, businesses are turning reusable cups into fashionable items to encourage consumers to purchase more than what is needed. Many consumers are not aware that the cups have a breakeven point, which is the amount of use required to leave less environmental impact than disposable cups. For a plastic reusable cup, it will require at least 36 uses, and stainless-steel cups may need more than 100 uses to breakeven. Jingjie Feng’s project expands on her practice in graphic design, proposing a mobile service application ‘OneCup’ alongside supporting graphic communications. The service aims to make users more aware of the environmental impact their reusable cup has and reward them for only using one cup all the time.
